How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?
We work with local schools to provide a supportive transition process attending meetings prior to enrolment. Our experienced staff are able to identify, assess and support young people with additional needs. Adaptations to timetables and facilities can be made if required.
How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?
We provide Specialist Mentors who can work one to one with young people and Learning Support Assistants who work alongside students in class. A comprehensive pastoral support system means that all students have someone to turn to when needed. The college can also provide assessments for exam access arrangements.
How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?
Each student is offered a place tailored to their career plans and ambitions. We provide study programmes that are matched to the young person and their academic/social needs. Support is provided based on need with a clear goal to improve independence and help prepare for adulthood.
How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?
We maintain regular contact with parents; parents can also access Pro portal to find out how their child is progressing academically. There are also the usual opportunities such as parents evening. A parents welcome evening at our sixth Form campus in September helps to explain how we provide support.
What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?
Each full time class based student will be allocated a Personal Progress Coach (PPC). The PPC is the conduit for information home and also the key worker for the student. Providing weekly group sessions, one to one work and available throughout the college day. PPCs have enhanced safeguarding training. PPCs work with young people to support attendance, behaviour and progress, where the young person has SEND needs this is in liaison with our Inclusion team.
If personal care is required in the 6th Form setting, facilities and staff with experience of this are available should the need arise.
What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?
From September 2024 there will be a new accessible and updated personal care space should it be required
How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?
Students with SEND who go on college trips/outside events are supported by additional staffing from Inclusion.
How accessible is the setting/school/college enviroment?
The Sixth Form campus is an accessible building with appropriate disabled toilets and facilities. The Inclusion team can provide additional resources to support learning.
How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?
Prior to enrolment at the college, Inclusion staff will attend the EHCP review or any TAC meetings to learn about our prospective student and support transition planning. We recognise that this is a very stressful time for both the young person and their parents/guardians.
The Sixth Form campus has a dedicated careers library and a careers advisor with a wealth of experience along with a pastoral programme that supports next steps thinking. We provide appropriate information to any follow on setting with the consent of the student and parent/guardian, in line with GDPR guidelines.
How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?
Through transition meetings, family meetings and contact with partner schools alongside local authority processes
How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?
As a Sixth Form provider it is our goal to help prepare young people for their next steps in education, work or training. Throughout the time at college we work with students to develop their independence; we are happy to involve parents in this, to work alongside us and the student in making decisions for the future.
